Farm Credit East Cares Contributes $20,000 to Disaster Relief Efforts
ENFIELD, CONN. — Following the recent devastating weather events in the southeast U.S., Farm Credit East has announced its Farm Credit East Cares Community Fund will donate $20,000 to relief efforts, including to organizations supporting the region’s agricultural producers and Farm Credit System employees.
“Our hearts go out to the producers and families impacted by this devastation,” said Mike Reynolds, Farm Credit East CEO. “Farm Credit East Cares was established by our employees following similar devastation in our area, with the intent to help those impacted by natural disasters. We know many farmers have suffered significant losses and damage, so we hope this contribution will aid in recovery.”
The $20,000 contribution will be split, with $10,000 donated to WNC Communities, an organization focused solely on helping impacted farmers in western North Carolina. For others looking to provide support, direct donations can be made via the WNC website: WNCcommunities.org. The other $10,000 will be donated to the Farm Credit System Employee Relief Fund, a fund to assist all Farm Credit employees experiencing financial hardship due to natural disasters.
“Coming together to help those in need is the guiding philosophy of Farm Credit East Cares,” said Craig Pollock, senior vice president and coordinator of Farm Credit East Cares. “Others have made generous contributions to support Farm Credit East customers following flooding and other devastation in our area in recent years, so we are pleased to provide this support.”
Farm Credit East Cares was established following Hurricane Irene’s devastation in the Northeast territory Farm Credit East serves in 2011. Since inception, this employee-led charitable fund has distributed more than $1 million in direct assistance to farm families and charitable organizations.
