Vermont Saves Retirement Savings Program
Vermont Saves is a retirement savings program created to give an option to employers that do not offer retirement benefits.
The Vermont Saves Program allows employees to contribute to their own Roth Individual Retirement Account (IRA) through automatic payroll deductions.
All eligible Vermont employers are required by law to facilitate Vermont Saves if they don’t offer a retirement plan for their employees. Registration started on March 1, 2025, and is currently available for all eligible employers.
Employer eligibility
An employer that has five or more W-2 workers who work over 500 hours in a calendar year, has been in business more than two years, and does not offer a retirement plan.
Are employees required to join?
No. Vermont Saves is a voluntary program that employees can opt out of. Employers that meet the requirements are required to create an account to give employees the opportunity to join. Employees have 30 days to opt out of the program or be automatically enrolled with the default savings and investment options.
Who is eligible for Vermont Saves?
Vermont saves is available for self-employed individuals, workers whose employers do not offer retirement plans, and/or those who want a way to save in a Roth IRA.
