Risk Management Agency Expands Perennial Crop Insurance Coverage for New Jersey Grape Producers and Clam Harvesters
BRIDGETON, N.J. — The Risk Management Agency (RMA) recently announced expansion of its perennial crop insurance coverage in New Jersey to include grape producers in additional counties and producers in select counties can now obtain coverage for their clams. This expansion will allow Crop Growers, Farm Credit East’s insurance provider, to provide important coverage to mitigate risk for more New Jersey producers.
Starting in the 2025 crop year, perennial crop insurance coverage for grapes will be extended to the New Jersey counties of Hunterdon, Mercer and Monmouth. Additionally, perennial crop insurance for clams will now be available in Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties in 2025.
“Perennial crop insurance is an important risk management tool for producers when it comes to fluctuating weather, pests and market volatility,” said Nick Corwonski, Crop Growers crop insurance agent. “This expansion can help New Jersey grape and clam producers best prepare for the unexpected.”
As a reminder, the upcoming deadline to insure Northeast perennial crops for the 2025 crop year is November 20, 2024.
Crop Growers sells and services crop insurance for 35 different crops, along with dairy and livestock coverage, throughout an eight-state territory. Producers do not need to be a Farm Credit customer to purchase crop insurance.
